Walk in the Light of God

Message – Sunday, May 26, 2024.                                                                                                                      Topic: Walk in the Light; Text: 1 John 1:5-10; Ephesians 5:8-16

Walking in the Light can be defined as living a life that is aligned with the will of God. Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world, John 8:12. Our Lord Jesus Christ also told us that believers are the light of the world as the sons and daughters of God, Matthew 5:14-16; John 1:12-13. It can also be defined as seeing things the way God sees them and responding the ways God would respond, because His spirit dwells in us, John 14:17. And as our theme for this month is Partnering with the Holy Spirit, it would be prudent to walk in the light, because God cannot behold iniquity, Acts 9:31b.

In the Bible passage we read this morning we are again reminded of who we are in Christ and how our Lord Jesus Christ has reconciled us with God, Romans 5:1-2. We cannot know the truth without walking in the light and being illuminated by the Holy Spirit. On the contrary walking in the darkness means being controlled by the desires for this world instead of desires for God. Bible also made use to understand that while walking in the light, the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ cleansed us from all our sins past, present, and future and it also keep us from sinning: progressive sanctification, Ephesians. 1:7, 13; Romans 5:9.

Walking in the light make us to see clearly where we are going; hence, we can avoid dangers and obstacles; it makes us to successfully fellowship with God and brethren; and it also grants us access to the truth from the throne of grace, John 16:13. It also allows us to live a victorious life in Christ Jesus, and results in the manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit, being sealed with the Holy Spirit eternally,; hence, casting out fear, Ephesians 1:13; 2 Timothy 1:7.

Trusting our Lord Jesus Christ and obeying Him are the basic requirements to walk in the light; however, we cannot trust Him unless we know Him and have a relationship with Him. Meaning that we need to acquaint ourselves with the Bible, memorize and meditate on it with the help of the Holy Spirit, Psalm 119:105. Most essentially, we need to totally surrender our will to His, and pray without ceasing, Gal. 2:20; 1 Thess. 5:17.

When we walk in the light, we can cast all our burdens on Him, 1 Peter 5:7; Matthew. 11:28-30; Philippians. 4:6-7. He will bless, guide, protect, and empower us to live victorious lives in Christ. Remain blessed in the Lord, Pastor Olumuyiwa Fajolu.
