Divine wisdom is the ability to discern between right and wrong, and to act
accordingly being guided and helped by the Holy Spirit (Prov. 3:5-6; 1
Corinth. 3:19). Wisdom is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and is essential
for a Christian to live a victorious life (1. Corinth. 12:8; Prov. 4: 5-9, 23).
Pure heart means to have a heart that is God-centered and willing one thing:
God’s truth and values in everything one does. It is free from all selfish and
wicked motivations and sinful intentions which blinds and darkens the mind
so that we cannot see things the way God sees them. God is the only one that
purifies the heart, and it is done by faith (Pro. 3:5, 4:23; Jer. 17:9).
In our Christian journey, we face several challenges and we need divine
guidance, even in mundane circumstances, because of our knowledge is
limited in both physical and Spiritual things (Isa. 55:8-9). And we know that
God is omniscient. Pure heart gives us access to the Holy Spirit, which in
turn gives us access to the divine wisdom. Most people would not
understand, appreciate or support our decisions, because the decisions can
only be spiritually discerned (1 Corinth. 2:14).
Pure heart provides us with continuous connection to the Holy Spirit; gives
us joy; enable us to intercede for others and gives us blessings (Psalm 24: 3-
5); see God (Matthew 5:8); etc.
Jesus is the power and wisdom of God (1 Corinth. 1: 23-25). We cannot
attain a pure heart by our work, we need to believe and accept our Lord Jesus
Christ as our personal Lord and savior to have it.
David applied a divine wisdom when he had King Saul in sight to kill Him
and decided not to, but applied earthly wisdom to kill Uriah, Bathsheba’s
husband, with negative consequences. I pray that God will purify our hearts
and give us divine wisdom to act according to His will in Jesus mighty name.
